Aston Villa backline prospect Eric Lichaj is soon expected to ink an improved contract with the Premier League battlers, MLSsoccer.com has learned.

The 21-year old Downers Grove, Ill. native, who excelled on loan to lower level Lincoln City and Leyton Orient last term, is entering the final season on his current pact.

"They've offered him a new three-year deal," Lichaj representative Steve Kelly told MLSsoccer.com. "I'll go there next month to sort it out."

The agent says Villa's move is an indication that he will now be expected to compete for a place in manager Martin O'Neill's selection.

"He's very close to the first team," said Kelly."I've had many discussions with Martin O'Neill."

"He's had interest from other clubs, but they are showing how badly they want to keep him. This is a serious contract."
