Gaven: Gearing up for the playoffs
Hey there, what's up? There's so much energy and excitement in the locker room this week. We are preparing for our final regular season match and gearing up for the playoffs. This is what we have worked all year for and we are so happy to have the opportunity to bring MLS Cup home.
Last Saturday's tie versus the Columbus Crew was good. We did not play well in the first half and ended up giving up an early goal. I thought we had a good second half giving us a better chance to win the game. However I think getting one point out of the match was definitely good for us because we remain in front of D.C. in the Eastern Conference standings.
This weekend's match versus D.C. is huge. We need to come away with at least one point to clinch second place in the Eastern Conference race. The team now knows that we will be playing them in the first round of playoffs so a victory will just start to get our momentum going. It will be a motivating factor to win a game in their stadium.
The team has been very focused on preparing for these upcoming matches. Training has been intense, but at the same time this is the best time of year. The guys know that the whole first part of this season will mean nothing unless we advance in the playoffs. We are optimistic and excited about where we will finish the season.
My second season has been really good so far. I would have liked to score more goals and hopefully can do that during the playoffs. Being called up to the national team a few times these season has been unbelievable and amazing. I am hoping to build on that excitement in the next few weeks.
I am happy to say that I won a friendly bet with my teammate John Wolyniec. During practice, we have a shooting drill called "Around the World." While we were in Oneonta, N.Y. practicing, Woly bet me that I could not complete it in 20 minutes, however I proved him wrong and finished in 17. It was a good feeling and a lot of fun.
Well guys, I have to go get back on the field. Write me some questions to MetroFan@MetroStars.com.
Take care and God Bless,
