Galaxy host Hispanic Heritage Night Aug. 21

  • Schedule of events &gt

CARSON, Calif. - The Los Angeles Galaxy are proud to present the fourth annual Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night featuring music, food and more on Saturday, Aug. 21 at The Home Depot Center in Carson. Following the 7 p.m. (PT) match between the Galaxy and the Chicago Fire, Latin recording artist Yolanda Perez, a native of nearby Corona, will treat Southern California soccer fans to a thrilling post-game musical performance. There will also be nearly two hours of pre-game entertainment from several local music groups. All of the concerts will be held on the stadium's main plaza stage.

The Galaxy have also added to the schedule the 1st Annual Hispanic Heritage Night Recruitment Fair, allowing companies a unique opportunity to recruit prospective Hispanic and bilingual employees. With more than 25 companies scheduled to participate, the recruitment fair should be a great opportunity for any fan attending the game to explore new job opportunities.

"Our annual Hispanic Heritage Night allows the Galaxy a unique opportunity to recognize and thank our Hispanic fans who have been and continue to be an important part of our success," said Los Angeles Galaxy President and General Manager Doug Hamilton. "They have always been very supportive of our players and our club since the early days of MLS, and we want to show them our appreciation with a celebration of their culture."

Local groups performing prior to the game include: Mariachi Latino, Principes Del Ritmo Juvenil (cumbia/sonidero format) and Banda Imperio Sinaloense (banda format). They will begin entertaining fans at 5:30 p.m. and continue until the Galaxy-Fire match kicks off at 7 p.m.

Perez, of Mexican-American heritage, will be highlighting the evening's musical performances after the match. Her bilingual urban hybrid song "Estoy Enamorada" (I'm in Love) reached the top ten on Billboard's Regional Mexican Airplay listings earlier this year.

"Estoy Enamorada" talks about an overprotective traditional Mexican father 'Don Cheto' and his Americanized daughter (Yolanda) and the ensuing confrontation that results as she comes of age in the United States. First performed by Yolanda and 'Don Cheto' - played by a local radio personality - last December at an awards show in Los Angeles, the song has since generated an enormous response among Latino audiences.

Her album of the same name also showcases her strong vocal abilities with romantic overtones. Traditional and modern styles are used on the 10 tracks including the English rhythm & blues classic "You'll Lose A Good Thing," as well as offering traditional Regional Mexican sounds of banda, ranchero and corridos.

Tickets are still available to the Galaxy-Fire match and the Budweiser Hispanic Heritage Night festivities on Aug. 21 at The Home Depot Center. In addition to the evening of entertainment, the first 10,000 fans in attendance will receive a Galaxy seat cushion, courtesy of SBC.
