Five players make Crew debut

he looks like a big galooka," joked Crew boss Greg Andrulis. "He doesn't get beat with pace very often. For his first game in MLS, I think he did quite well. He had a good spring for us."

Schulte appeared strong at right back, a position that no one steadily held last year, as the Galaxy attack was completely shut down. After four seasons with Minnesota Thunder of the A-League and then spending last year with Icelandic Premier League outfit IBV Vestmannaeyjar, the former University of Dayton standout made a good first impression in the league.

The Crew were devastated by injuries during the preseason and were still missing several regulars from last season including Frankie Hejduk, Duncan Oughton, Ross Paule, and Chris Wingert. All except Hejduk may be away for extended periods.

With the three-goal lead before the hour mark, Andrulis then used all three substitutions to get three rookies -- Dominic Mediate, Ryan Kelly, and Knox Cameron -- a chance to taste professional soccer.

"Because of our injury situations in the preseason, those three guys played a bulk of minutes and really did well every time out there," said Andrulis.

"It is really good to get those guys out there anytime because we are going to missing guys during the season. The Gold Cup is this summer. It is good to get them minutes and get the jitters out of the way."
