Fire, Earthquakes quotes & notes

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES HEAD COACH DOMINIC KINNEAR

On the game:

"We wanted to get at them, and I thought that we played a strong game and were probably a little unlucky to not score. Playing at home we would like to get the win, but when we went down to 10 guys, and on a hot day like this, I thought it was a good result."

On the result:

"Both goalkeepers played well today. Pat [Onstad] came up with some really good saves to keep us even. I didn't expect a 0-0 tie today. I think when you look out on the field and see guys like Ante Razov and Landon [Donovan] and Dwayne [De Rosario] you expect to see some goals because there were a lot of explosive players out there."

On the Earthquakes attack:

"I am not concerned. I think when you have players like Dwayne [De Rosario], Landon [Donovan], Brian [Ching] and Jamil [Walker], we know that we have good goal-scorers and we know that the goals are going to come. I would will be concerned when we stop creating chances, but we did that and we continued to go forward and test them."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES GOALKEEPER PAT ONSTAD

On the game:

"The guys played much better from last week, it was difficult for us to go down a man once again, but I thought we still created a lot of chances."

On his play:

"In a game like this, the goalkeeper is going to get a chance to help his team. That is what I am there for. Chicago has a good team and they are going to get some good chances. They are an attacking team who likes to go forward and get results. On the save against Razov in the first half, it was a nice ball on the back post and there wasn't much a defender can do."

On the game:

"We are at home and a little disappointed with the point. But, it is early in the season, and given who we were playing, I thought both teams deserved a point.

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES MIDFIELDER RICHARD MULROONEY
On playing the Fire:

"They might have come in thinking about the [2003] MLS Cup, but they know it is a new season. It could be in the back of their minds, but they know it is over and they can't change history."

SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES DEFENDER WES HART

On his first start as a member of the Earthquakes:

"I felt I did all right. I still struggled on going 90 minutes. It was only the second or third time I have played a full 90 minutes. Plus, I had a late start signing with the 'Quakes. At least we didn't give up a goal."

CHICAGO FIRE HEAD COACH DAVE SARACHAN

On the game:

"I thought today was a good game for us. We had a very good start to the game and in the middle to late first half we lost a little rhythm. I thought we pressed the game and had good chances. It's disappointing that we didn't do a little better with the ball after they got the red card. I think the fatigue set in at that time. But we'll take the point on the road."

On the week ahead:

"We do have a very busy week ahead of us, with our game in Costa Rica in the middle of the week and our home opener next Saturday in Chicago, but we'll take it one a time and reassess where everyone is physically. I think our guys will be ready."

CHICAGO FIRE GOALKEEPER HENRY RING

On the Chicago defense:

"My defense played really well all day. They had a couple of opportunities, especially with Landon [Donovan] a couple of times. But Jimmy [Curtin], Evan [Whitfield] and Kelly [Gray] really shut them down and I didn't really have to do much. They made me look good."

On his play:

"I made a few good reaction saves, and I really felt a lot more relaxed this game than the last game. The nerves are slowly getting out and I feel comfortable."

CHICAGO FIRE MIDFIELDER DAMARCUS BEASLEY

On the game:

"We came away with a good point. It's always tough on the road, especially in San Jose because the field is so small plus it was their home opener."

On starting the season with two scoreless ties:

"We can't get too down on ourselves, and we can't get too high. We haven't won yet, but we also haven't lost yet. It's a good situation so hopefully come next week, with our home opener, we can get the desired three points."
