Feilhaber back with Aarhus, waiting for word

AMSTERDAM – Back from his World Cup vacation, Aarhus GF midfielder Benny Feilhaber is going about his preseason work as usual despite uncertainty over his club future.

Unable to afford their international players any longer, the relegated Whites have openly placed the 25-year-old on the market. An exit seems inevitable.

Nevertheless, AGF have named Feilhaber in their squad for Friday's friendly with local minnows Aarhus Fremad. The US playmaker is eager to make the best of a sticky situation and get himself ready for whatever's to come.

"I don't feel awkward about the situation this preseason," Feilhaber told MLSsoccer.com. "I know how AGF feel, and I also know that it's not an easy situation to be in. So I'm taking it day by day. I am going 100 percent, knowing no matter where I end up, I need to get my fitness back and be ready to compete for a spot."

Feilhaber has had some other interest around Europe, but is currently crossing his fingers over talks with a Spanish club.

"I think La Liga would be a great place for my football," he stated. "I think I could keep improving my game there and hopefully I could succeed as a player there."

As for his World Cup experience, Feilhaber says disappointment from the Americans' Round-of-16 ouster against Ghana has already subsided enough for him to look back fondly.

"I think we should all be proud of the way we played in South Africa and what we were able to do during the tournament," he declared. "I think there were more positives than negatives throughout our run in the World Cup, but there’s always that feeling after it's over that we could've done better and gone further in the competition."

"Being my first World Cup, the experience is something I'll cherish for my whole life," said Feilhaber. "It's the biggest sporting event in the world and I'm sure I'll never forget it."
