FC Dallas warm up for friendly match

FC Dallas had a morning training session before their match Tuesday against Aalesund of Norway. Before training got started, the remaining players in the "Survivor-Apprentice" competition continued their battle.

In the first challenge of the day, the 14 remaining players in "Survivor" went to the middle of the field and lay down on their backs. The players then had to put the soccer ball between their feet and hold up the ball off the grass with their legs straight. Clarence Goodson (Team A) was the first to go down. Aaron Pitchkolan (Team A) was the final member of his team to keep the ball up, while Philip Salyer and Simo Valakari opposed him on the other side. Pitchkolan then dropped his legs as Team B won the competition. Ironically, just a day after being named the team's captain for the 2005 season, Valakari was the captain for Team B. After Valakari huddled with his team to strategize on who should be eliminated, he made the decision that it would be Richard Mulrooney.

For the second challenge of the morning, the players gathered in groups of two and played horseshoes with the soccer ball. One player would chip the ball to his partner who would try and stop the ball as close to a cone as possible. The games went for two minutes and the finals saw Carey Talley and Valakari battle Drew Moor and David Wagenfuhr. The score was tied 3-3 and, with the whole team surrounding the matchup, Valakari chipped the ball to Talley who put it right next to the pin for the win.

MORNING TRAINING: One objective the team had at its morning session was to work on free kicks. The ball was placed 10 yards outside the box, and Richard Mulrooney, Ronnie O'Brien, Ty Maurin, Simo Valakari and Carey Talley all practiced their kicks with Chris Gomez in net: It was a light training session for FC Dallas as the team prepared for their match Tuesday night against Aalesund of Norway. Kickoff is set for 11:30 a.m. CT.

INJURY UPDATE: Arturo Alvarez suffered a bone bruise in his leg during the match with Shamrock Monday and got treatment on the side during training Tuesday...Cornell Glen (ankle injury) is feeling much better and has been upgraded from week-to-week to day-to-day...Oscar Pareja sat out of training today after playing 70 minutes yesterday...Eric Quill was sent home to Dallas on Monday morning and will be re-evaluated next week.

QUOTE OF THE DAY: "We couldn't kick anybody off that team because they would have had only two guys left. Their team would have been decimated." - FC Dallas assistant coach Steve Morrow when asked why nobody was eliminated after the horseshoe competition.
