SAN JOSE EARTHQUAKES 1, REAL SALT LAKE 0

RSL Head Coach John Ellinger

On tonight's game:

"The first half I thought we did well with 20 to 25 minutes of possession and then we gave away the goal late in the half. We need to get more dangerous in the final third and do better with our chances on goal.

"Our effort was good and our discipline and shape was better than last game."

On Jay Nolly's performance:

"Jay is solid, he always gives us what you saw tonight, he obviously has a lot to talent, and he stepped in and did a solid job."

On the play of Robert Scarlett:

"He is going to be a special player and he is going to get better and better in the League. I thought Adolfo played also played well."

RSL forward Jason Kreis

On the recognition of his career-leading 100 goals:

"It was emotional for sure to see some of the people say such nice things about me. The reception that I received from the players was fantastic as well as from the management and it was special to have my family there as well, and the crowd was great."

On tonight's game:

"They did just enough to get the result. I felt we played better tonight, I thought that we were better organized, but in the end it just wasn't enough. So that is disheartening and we're backing ourselves into a corner and pretty soon our backs will be against the wall. But we're not going to quit until it is over."

RSL midfielder Robert Scarlett

On his first start and game in MLS:

"The pace of the game in MLS is quicker than in Jamaica and I need to work on getting better shots on goal. I just hope that coach gives me another chance show that I can compete in this league and contribute to the team."

San Jose Head Coach Dominic Kinnear

On game:

"It was a good win for us. We approach every game the same way. We are always looking to go forward and keep the ball moving, and we are looking to score goals both at home and on the road."

On shutting down RSL attack:

"I think that we did a good job of limiting their chances. They had some balls in box in the second half, but that plays to the strengths of Danny (Califf) and Eddie (Robinson), so we were able to deal with them pretty well. Forwards tracked back, midfielders tracked back and every one did their part to keep the shutout. We could have held the ball a bit better at the end, but I am happy with the effort and the three points."

San Jose goalkeeper Pat Onstad

On shutout:

"The guys played well tonight in the back. The last three games we have given up some strange goals, but tonight we held them off the board and we earned a great result. If we keep playing like we did tonight, the shutouts will keep coming."

On leading West:

"We try to win every game we play. We don't go on the road and try and get draws, but we go for the win. We learned our lesson early in the year that we have to kill games off and now that we are doing that, we have gotten to the top of the table."

San Jose midfielder Ricardo Clark

On being named to MLS Select Team for Real Madrid game:

"It is definitely an honor to be selected to this team. It is a dream come true to play against all of their great, World Cup players. I am looking forward to it. I watched them play against the Galaxy and they looked good, so we will have to be prepared going in there."

San Jose midfielder Mark Chung

On the goal:

"I got a pass from Wade (Barrett) and I had Paul Broome one-on-one. I did a couple of step-overs and pushed it to my left and I caught the goalkeeper cheating. Then I just found the near post after that."

On the team:

"I have never been on a team like this. It is extraordinary that every game the goals come from different people and we do not rely on just one or two guys. Everyone contributes to our success."
