Donovan chosen Player of the Week

Landon Donovan was voted the MLS Player of the Week for week 5 for his efforts in his team's 3-2 victory over Real Salt Lake on Saturday, April 29.

Donovan led his team with a goal and two assists. In the 11th minute, with his team down 1-0, Donovan stole the ball from Real Salt Lake's defense and broke in on goal, coolly sliding the ball in the net for his first goal of the season.

Donovan earned the second assist on Los Angeles' second goal by finding Chris Albright with a pass to the right wing. Albright crossed the ball to Cobi Jones for a goal in the 26th minute.

In the second half, Donovan capped off his performance by setting up the eventual game winner, slotting a perfect through ball to a streaking Herculez Gómez for the team's third goal.

Donovan, who will likely be on the field in Germany for this summer's FIFA World Cup, has been named MLS Player of the week four times in his career.

The Major League Soccer Player of the Week is selected every week throughout the MLS regular season by a panel of journalists from the Professional Soccer Reporters Association (PSRA).
