Dominic Kinnear's weekly conversation
After Wednesday's tough 2-1 defeat to the Dallas Burn, what do you feel is the mood of the team?
Dominic Kinnear: "We are disappointed to not get any points out of that game, also it is disappointing to fall into the bottom of the Western Conference. We know that we are a better team than that and we know we can play better. We need to start performing better right now and get those results."
What is your reaction to having five members of the Earthquakes [Landon Donovan, Jeff Agoos, Brian Ching, Richard Mulrooney and Pat Onstad] selected to the starting lineup for the West team in the MLS All-Star game?
DK: "It's a great honor and just says so much about how hard these guys have worked. I want to congratulate all of them. I want to especially congratulate Brian Ching, he suffered a very serious injury last year and was able to come back and have an all-star season so far. Congratulations to all five guys, it is great to see these guys get that kind of recognition."
With Landon Donovan, Brian Ching and Brian Mullan unavailable due to national team duty and the Quakes nursing several injuries, what kind of a lineup do you expect to use on Saturday?
DK: "To be honest with you, right now I am still unsure. It is going to depend a lot on the injuries with a few of our players. Guys like Jeff [Agoos], Ronnie [Ekelund] and Jamil [Walker] could be in the lineup depending on how they are feeling tomorrow. What our lineup is going to look like is going to depend a lot on what happens with those guys and how they are feeling."
What do you expect from the MetroStars on Saturday?
DK: "After their loss last week, we know that they are going to be coming after us and are really going to attack us from the start. We've got to start off defending well and stay with them. It is important for us to move the ball, and continue to move off the ball. I think that we will be able to get some opportunities against them, and we are going to look to pressure them. Eddie Pope is not going to be with them, but they have a good goalkeeper in Jonny Walker. With the MetroStars, you always have to be careful of dangerous players like Amado Guevara and John Wolyniec."
