Dominic Kinnear's weekly conversation

What are your thoughts on the inclusion of Brian Ching and Brian Mullan to the U.S. National Team's roster for the July 11 game against Poland?

I think it is an honor for any player to play for his country and I hope both of these players get that chance against Poland. These two players are well-deserving because they have been playing very well this season. I wish them luck in that game and I hope they are included in future national team games.

Ryan Cochrane has started six games for the Earthquakes this season. How would you assess his play in the first six games of his MLS career?

He's played very well. From his first game to now, he has been very consistent in his performances. Now I think that he is more comfortable with the speed of the game in MLS and he is going to keep getting better as the season goes on.

Looking back on the Quakes 1-1 tie with the Wizards, what pleased you most about the team's performance?

I was pleased with the way that we kept attacking and came back for the second straight game. We really pushed the game, especially in the second half and even after we scored the tying goal, we kept going forward to try and get the winner. The guys put in a good effort.

In the Quakes last game over the Galaxy, Los Angeles was missing forward Carlos Ruiz. With Ruiz back in the lineup, does that change the way the Galaxy play and how the Quakes will approach the game?

Obviously when Ruiz is in the lineup, LA is a more dangerous attacking team and we have to be aware of where is on the field. He has proven that he can score goals with just a few chances, so we have to limit his service and not give him a lot of opportunities in front of goal. Offensively, we have to finish our chances and get a good result down there.

As a player, did playing in front of a July 4 holiday crowd influence you or get you more excited to perform?

Players like to play in front of big crowds and usually you can expect a big crowd on the Fourth of July, so the players are looking forward to the game.
