The Deal with Davis
It's been a difficult couple of weeks for our team, but we're working hard to recover from this slump and the L.A. game, which was by far our worst performance of the season. Our spirits are still high, though, and we believe in this team, but we know we need to turn things around. We started the season very strongly, so we know we can score the goals and get the results. It just seems like things haven't been going our way for the past couple of games. But, there are also some things that we know we need to improve on if we want to see better results.
We really need to concentrate on getting more numbers forward. We've had a pretty defensive mentality lately and we've been very focused on defending with numbers and being strong in the back. What we need to do is to continue to be tough defensively but also try to bring more players into the attack, including myself.
Last year I was able to create a good number of scoring chances from the wing and this weekend against the MetroStars we're going to try to use our width to get behind their defense. The MetroStars are a team that like to create in the middle and we're going to try to counter that by attacking down the wings. I want to get myself into more scoring chances so that hopefully I can do more to help us win.
I thought I had a goal last week, but (Kevin) Hartman made a great save on my free kick. It was one of those things that as soon as I hit it, I thought it was going in, and I almost started to turn around to walk back to midfield, but the next thing you know, it's out for a corner. That's the way it goes sometimes.
I think you'll see a much better performance from us this week. We're not comparing this current slump to anything like last year because we know it's in our power to pick up some points and be right back in the thick of things. Of course, we don't want to peak too early, so we'll try to improve steadily as the season goes on. There are still a lot of games left to be played, so don't count us out.
Until next week...
