D.C. United's Freddy Adu named to U.S. U-20 roster
WASHINGTON, D.C. - It was announced yesterday that D.C. United's Freddy Adu has been named to the U.S. Under-20 Men's National Team roster by head coach Sigi Schmid. The 24-man roster will travel to Blaine, Minn. on Sunday and will face the Canada Under-20 Men's National Team on Wednesday (May 18, 8:35 p.m. ET in preparation for the World Youth Championships.
Today, Adu will take part in a live online chat, during a trip to the ESPN headquarters in Bristol, Conn. The chat will take place at 3:30 p.m. ET on ESPN.com. Adu will also appear on ESPN's SportsCenter, ESPNews and answer "10 Burning Questions."
The U-20s are less than a month away from competing in the 2005 FIFA World Youth Championship, which will take place from June 10-July 2 in Holland. The U.S. qualified for Holland with a first-place finish in Group A of the CONCACAF Under-20 qualifying tournament at The Home Depot Center in Carson, Calif., in January, and was drawn into the difficult Group D with Argentina, Germany and Egypt. Adu, one of the most dangerous players on the U.S. squad despite being the youngest at 15 years of age, will be making his first appearance with the Under-20s since the CONCACAF qualifying tournament where he scored two goals in three games
