D.C. United to unveil new away uniform in 2005

WASHINGTON, D.C. - D.C. United and adidas announced today plans to unveil a new away jersey for the 2005 season (buy it here). After enjoying the comfort and design of their newly designed home uniforms in 2004, including a change to adidas' ClimaCool technology, D.C. United decided to implement the same additions to their away jerseys this season.

"Adidas and Sierra Mist have provided us with technologically cutting-edge, comfortable uniforms, " said United Technical Director Dave Kasper. "In addition to allowing our players to compete at the highest level, the new uniforms also look very sharp."

A League-wide sponsor, Sierra Mist will be the official sponsor of D.C. United's uniforms. The Sierra Mist logo will be featured on the back of the uniform, just below each player's number, as well as on the front side of each pair of shorts and on the sleeves.

"We are pleased to join forces with the most successful team in MLS history," said John Galloway, VP of sports and media, Pepsi-Cola North America. "This affiliation furthers our commitment to the sport of soccer and is a tremendous platform to showcase our partnership with Freddy Adu."

United will debut their new away uniforms at the site of their 2004 MLS Cup victory, The Home Depot Center in Carson, California on April 2 against MLS expansion team CD Chivas USA. The game will be televised on ABC with kickoff scheduled for 3:00 PM (EST).

The basic design of the jerseys will be similar to those worn by the 2004 MLS Cup Champion team. The base color for the shirt and shorts will remain white. While United's 2005 uniform continues to feature adidas' signature "three-stripes" across the chest, the United shield will move from the center of the shirt to over the heart. Three stripes will remain and run the length of the sleeves, as well. The new uniforms also contain red on the collar and black slashes along the midsection.
