D.C. United announces U-16 Y-League tryouts
CHANTILLY, VA - D.C. United announced today the third round of open tryouts for the club's U-16 Super Y-League squad today. Coached by Ken Krieger and Sean Lanigan, United's U-16 side will conduct an open trial this Sunday, May 2nd from 7:30-9:15 p.m. at Lewinsville Park in McLean, VA.
The tryouts will be conducted on Field #2. All of those players who participated in the first or second tryout have been contacted. Players who were unable to attend either of the previous open tryouts are encouraged to attend. All players will be required to have a voluntary release waiver and medical treatment waiver on file before participating in any training activities.
Directions to Lewinsville Park:
Take the Beltway to Exit 46. Take Rte 123 North towards McLean. At fourth traffic light turn right onto Great Falls Street. Proceed one block and turn left on Chain Bridge Road. The park entrance is on the right. Field #2 has lights; Field # 3 is beyond Field #2, Field #4 is along Chain Bridge Road.
D.C. United's Y-League program is open to any serious and committed player in the D.C. metropolitan area. This supplemental program, modeled after soccer academies at top European clubs, will provide an opportunity for players to accelerate the development of skills necessary to play soccer at the highest levels.
D.C. United's Y-League teams will compete in the Mid-Atlantic Division, and will play a minimum of 10 games. In addition to competition against other Y-League sides, players will experience exhibition matches against top foreign clubs. In 2003, United's U-17 side toured Europe, playing matches against academy sides from top clubs, including Kaiserslautern, Tottenham Hotspur, and Glasgow Celtic. Players experienced firsthand the rigors of competition at the highest levels, capturing a 3-1 victory over a highly skilled Bayer Leverkusen side.
Coach - Ken Krieger: Ken Krieger returns to the D.C. United Super Y-League program for another year. In 2001, he led his U-14 squad to the USL Super Y-League National Championship. Krieger is a former NCAA Div. I assistant coach, formerly of American University and George Mason University, and currently holds a USSF 'A' License.
