The Crew's Erick Scott and Costa Rica advance to quarterfinals at Olympics

COLUMBUS, Ohio - Columbus Crew forward Erick Scott came on at halftime of Wednesday's game vs. Portugal with Costa Rica trailing 1-0 and helped Costa Rica score four second-half goals to win 4-2 and advance to the quarterfinals of the summer Olympics in Greece.

Costa Rica and Morocco finished tied for second in Group D with four points but Costa Rica advanced on the third tiebreaker. The two teams tied 0-0 in their head-to-head match-up and also tied in goal differential at zero. The third tiebreaker was total goals and Costa Rica advanced four goals to three. Iraq captured first place in the group with six points.

Costa Rica now faces world power Argentina in the quarterfinals on Saturday. Scott had played the full 90 minutes in the two previous games vs. Morocco and Iraq. Men's soccer in the Olympics is comprised of the Under-23 national teams for each country.

Scott has appeared in six games for Columbus this season, with two starts. He also tallied an assist in the Crew's 2-1 Open Cup win over Syracuse (A-League). Scott has missed a total of nine games this season while with Costa Rica, three for World Cup qualifying and six so far with the Olympic team.

Scott signed with the Crew as a discovery player on March 26, 2004.
