Chris Wondolowski participates as "Celebrity Scooper" at A's game

On Wednesday, July 27, Earthquakes rookie midfielder Chris Wondolowski took part in the Oakland Athletics' sixth annual Mug Root Beer Float Day as a "Celebrity Scooper" at McAfee Coliseum before the A's took on the Cleveland Indians.

Wondolowski helped the rest of the celebrities at the event raise a record total of $51,700 in a three-hour span to benefit the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation. Fans could purchase a plastic mug for two dollars and then choose from an array of professional athletes, radio and television personnel, and other favorites to make their root beer float.

"I was scooping root beer floats for all the kids," said Wondolowski at the event. "All the proceeds go to charity, so it was a lot of fun and good for the community."

The midfielder was a huge hit, as fans of all ages poured to the San Jose Earthquakes table in the East Side Club of the Coliseum. The reserve league goal-scoring sensation scooped numerous root beer floats, signed autographs and took pictures to help raise money for JDRF. The Earthquakes staff also gave out schedules, photographs, bumper stickers, and other Quakes memorabilia at the event.

Fans were excited to see a member of the Earthquakes represented at Mug Root Beer Float Day, but no one was more ecstatic than Wondolowski's younger sister, Katie, who came to visit her brother at the event. She even stole an autograph from him while he scooped her a root beer float.

"All the appearances I've done have been pretty fun, but the ones I do for charity and for the kids, that makes it even more great," said Wondolowski.
