Chicago Fire to take part in seventh annual Naperville 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning

CHICAGO - For the third consecutive year, the Chicago Fire will take part in one of Chicagoland's growing Holiday season events, as the Major League Soccer club will again help to sponsor the Seventh Annual Naperville 5K Turkey Trot on Thanksgiving morning, next Thursday, Nov. 25. In addition to sponsoring the event, the Fire organization will participate by sending a team of runners from its front office staff. This year's race will begin at 8:00 a.m. CT at Naperville Central High School, located at 440 W. Aurora Ave. in Naperville, with the race beginning on Hillside Street before winding down West Street, Plainfield Naperville Road Oswego Road before ending back at NCHS. Runners, joggers and walkers of all ages are invited to take part in the Turkey Trot, with proceeds from the event going directly to the Naperville Noon Lions Club.

The cost for participants who pre-register is $20, while a fee of $25 will be charged to those who register the day of the event. Entrants are encouraged to pre-register for the event, which can be done in one of three ways:

  • Online registration at www.ACTIVE.com. Participants can pay the registration fee via credit card online by visiting the site by midnight on Monday, Nov. 22.

  • By faxing a completed registration form to 630-305-6183. The registration form can be found online at www.napervilleturkeytrot.com/registration.htm. The completed form MUST include credit card information.

  • Pre-registering in person at one of two locations: Naperville Central H.S. Large Cafeteria on Saturday, Nov. 20 from 8:00 a.m. - 12:00 p.m. OR at the Naperville Running Company, located at 20 W. Jefferson Avenue in Naperville, on Monday, Nov. 22 from 3:00-8:00 p.m. Other pre-registrants may also pick up their gift/information packets at these times.

    Day of race registration and packet pick up will take place at the NCHS Field House from 6:30-7:30 a.m.

    In addition to the top overall male and female runners, the top male and female runners in each individual age division will receive a prize. The 13 different age categories are as follows: 14 & under, 15-19, 20-24, 25-29, 30-34, 35-39, 40-44, 45-49, 50-54, 55-59, 60-64, 65-69, 70 & older. All participants that pre-register will receive a gift packet and official Turkey Trot T-Shirt, while those that register on the morning of the race will receive a t-shirt only while supplies last. Parking for the event will be available in the east and west parking lots at Naperville Central High School, the Municipal Center, the Riverwalk Rotary Hill and Naperville Centennial Beach.

    The Lions Club is the largest international service organization in the world and has been in existence since 1917. It continues as a fund raising entity to help the vision and hearing impaired. The Naperville Noon Lions Club supports Lions Club International, which has begun a campaign to eliminate blindness around the world. On the local level, the Naperville Noon Lions provides eye exams and glasses for children and their families who cannot afford them while also providing hearing screenings and hearing aids free of charge, services that have helped more than 1,200 Napervillians see and hear better over the last year. Diabetes, a disease often associated with vision problems, is also a special cause for the Lions.
