There is a lot of work to be done before the MetroStars begin their season on April 2 against Real Salt Lake. A returning core of capable players and recent acquisitions such as Ward and a five-time MLS Cup winner in defender Jeff Agoos should make the Metros a formidable side in 2005.

"I think we do have some exciting players coming back," said Leitch. "I know the attitude around our camp is very upbeat and very positive. I know for a fact that we're going to work extremely hard. I think when it's all said and done we're going to put an exciting product on the field. We're not thinking of anything other than bringing home some hardware."
