MAJOR LEAGUE SOCCER QUOTE SHEET
SATURDAY, JULY 24, 2004 - DALLAS BURN 5, D.C. UNITED 1
DALLAS BURN HEAD COACH COLIN CLARKE
On playing against a short-handed team:
"We did what we were supposed to do. I thought they came out early and obviously went at it. They decided not to sit back and come at us hard and try to get something to maybe hold on to. The first 20 minutes was back and forth and untidy. Once we got the first one, it was good from there on. I thought our ball movement was good and I thought our movement off the ball was good. Anytime the ball got wide we attacked the box very well. We made hard runs in the box and moved it quickly and when you do those things good things happen."
On the scoring from midfielders and defenders:
"We've been talking about that for a while. Steve Jolley worked on the corner yesterday in training and it worked tonight. I'm also delighted for Brad Davis. It was a big night for him and you could see the relief on his face when that one went in."
DALLAS BURN MIDFIELDER BRAD DAVIS
On his first goals of the season:
"There's been a huge monkey on my back this whole entire year. It feels very good to finally hit the back of the net and I hope there's plenty more to come. Hopefully from here on out it won't be so hard."
On the team's recent offensive production:
"This game and the Open Cup game vs. Colorado we started putting things together. We've been a little more patient in front of the goal and in the final third and we've been moving the ball and creating more chances the last few games."
DALLAS BURN MIDFIELDER RONNIE O'BRIEN
On the game:
"We felt pretty good being up a pair at halftime but two goals can also be a curse as well because you get complacent. We came out in the second half and started putting pressure on them and creating chances. It was just a good team performance. Confidence is a big thing and we're starting to play with some confidence now."
D.C. UNITED HEAD COACH PETER NOWAK
On the game:
"It's very hard to judge the team on tonight's game. We were missing so much."
On cutting the lead to 2-1:
"I felt like we had plenty of time to tie it, but we didn't have enough."
On going forward:
"I'm looking forward to being able to put our best 11 on the field."
D.C. UNITED GOALKEEPER TROY PERKINS
"There are so many excuses, but we're professionals. We need to play better regardless of who's on the field."
D.C. UNITED MIDFIELDER BRIAN CARROLL
On the state of the team:
"We need to work, together and as a unit, to get better. We have a lot of good players and we're good enough to win now."
D.C. UNITED FORWARD FREDDY ADU
On the game:
"I felt we didn't play to our potential. Credit to them for winning, but even though we lost, we laid it all out there."
On team morale:
"I don't sense us getting down, but different people are playing every week. It's tough to win when everyone is still getting to know one another."
