Akron star Sarkodie on trial in Denmark
AMSTERDAM – University of Akron junior defender Kofi Sarkodie is on trial with Danish outfit FC Midtjylland, with a verdict expected over the weekend.
The US Under-20 international began working out with the Black Wolves, who formerly employed Philadelphia Union defender Danny Califf, on Monday.
"He is training with the first team," FC Midtjylland press officer Torben Kølbæk told MLSsoccer.com. "One player might be on the his way out. If he is sold, we will need a replacement."
New Zealand World Cup star Winston Reid is the market item in question, with interest in his services from England, Germany and Italy.
An Ohio native, Sarkodie was a third team All-American for the Zips in 2009, when they lost in the NCAA championship game. The daring right back has notched four goals and nine assists in 47 games for Akron.
Sarkodie's oldest brother Kwame plays for the D2 Rochester Rhinos, while brother Ofori is a 2010 MLS SuperDraft pick of the Kansas City who has trialed in Norway.
