Six MLS players named to US U-20 national team roster for September camp in Argentina

Six MLS players have been called up to head coach Tab Ramos’ US U-20 national team roster for a September training camp in Buenos Aires, Argentina.

New York Red Bulls teammates Santiago Castaño and Matthew Miazga, the LA Galaxy’s Bradford Jamieson IV, Zach Pfeffer from the Philadelphia Union, San Jose Earthquakes forward Tommy Thompson (above) and Sporting Kansas City’s Erik Palmer-Brown have been named to the 19-man roster announced Friday by US Soccer.

Seventeen players on the roster have ties to the Development Academy.

The camp, which takes place from Sept. 1-10, will be highlighted by a matchup against Argentina’s U-20s on Sept. 9. The US Soccer release also said the trip could potentially include two matches against two first-division reserve teams with details to come.

Nine players on the current roster saw the pitch during the U-20’s first international competition of the year at the NTC Invitational. The tournament was capped off by a scoreless draw against Australia on July 18. The USA went 2-0-1 in the tournament, with Pfeffer's two-goal, one-assist ouput in 107 minutes of play the highlight.

This marks the fifth camp or tournament of the year for this age group and the squad’s first international trip in 2014. The U-20s had domestic camps in January and May, took second place at the 2014 Dallas Cup in April and most recently competed at the 2014 National Training Center Invitational in July in Carson, California.
