American Exports: USMNT, AZ Alkmaar forward Aron Jóhannsson out through September
AMSTERDAM – Already expected to be on the mend until later this month following ankle surgery, AZ Alkmaar strike ace Aron Jóhannsson has now been ruled out until at least the end of September following a weekend groin operation.
The Eredivisie club announced the second setback on Monday, stating that the US international would likely be out an additional six weeks. In addition to missing club action, Jóhannsson will miss the US national team's friendly against the Czech Republic, set for Sept. 3 in Prague.

According to AZ press officer Daan Schippers, the groin injury is similar to one that required surgery back when Jóhannsson was with Danish side Aarhus in 2012. This time around, the muscle had been causing him problems as far back as US World Cup camp and then became exacerbated as he worked the comeback trail from his summer ankle operation.
"It was not found that he needed surgery until he was in rehab for his ankle," Schippers told MLSsoccer.com.
Jóhannsson has 29 goals in 50 AZ appaearances across all competitions, including 20 in his 29 home outings at AFAS-Stadion. Without him, the Cheese Farmers have split their first two matches of the new Eredivisie season.
