AMSTERDAM – Bobby Wood notched an opening-day assist on Monday, but his 1860 Munich suffered a late 2.Bundesliga collapse to fall 3-2 at 10-man Kaiserslautern.

The US winger, who went the distance at his new left-side position, was involved in the away attack early and often. Wood drew a pair of saves inside the first quarter-hour of action, and then played a large part in Red Devils netminder Thomas Sippel being sent off in the 20th minute.

Wood was set free behind the home defense and the Kaiserslautern 'keeper raced out of his area to intercede, only to play the ball with his hands. Lions striker Rubin Okotie then opened the scoring in the 26th minute before Wood picked him out with a pinpoint cross seven minutes later.

After starring in the first half, the American found fewer opportunities to have impact as 1860 unwisely sat back on the lead after intermission. Still, Wood did manage to draw another two yellow cards and set up a good chance for the third that Leandro squandered.

Kaiserslautern then astonishingly flipped to contest on its head over the final 22 minutes, scoring three times to keep 1860 winless on opening day since 2009.
