American Exports: Suitors sniffing around Geoff Cameron but Stoke City have no intent to sell
AMSTERDAM – Defensive handyman Geoff Cameron has received widespread transfer interest this summer, but his agent informed MLSsoccer.com that Stoke City have no interest in parting with the US international.
As reported by the Stoke Sentinel on Friday, the 29-year-old has drawn quite a crowd of admirers in recent months. Fresh off working at three different positions in his first World Cup, Cameron currently has several Premier League suitors and Bundesliga side Hamburg pondering bids for his services. In addition, the likes of Anderlecht, Eintracht Frankfurt, PSV Eindhoven and Schalke made introductory calls about Cameron earlier in the summer.
"There have been numerous options, especially EPL, but I met with Stoke yesterday and they won't sell," Cameron's rep, Gary Mellor, told MLSsoccer.com by e-mail on Friday night.
Since arriving from the Houston Dynamo two summers ago, Cameron has started 74 of 79 matches across all competitions for Stoke. Having just returned to the club after a post-World Cup vacation, he is now preparing to see his first action of the preseason when the Potters visit Blackburn on Sunday.
Stoke will open the new Premier League season at home to Brad Guzan and Aston Villa on August 16.
