Atletico Madrid coach Diego Simeone praises Jurgen Klinsmann for USMNT's performance at World Cup
Although most pundits were not predicting the US national team to get out of the "Group of Death" at the 2014 World Cup, Jurgen Klinsmann's group reached the knockout rounds of the World Cup.
Some American fans and media members have identified the performance as being status quo, given the US lost in extra time in the 2010 World Cup, but one high-profile manager in Spain would disagree with those naysayers.
"Klinsmann has revolutionized football in the United States," said Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone. "He has been able to get a whole country behind the team, and that’s very difficult in the USA.
"But above all, he got the team working together and for each other – and they competed at an excellent level in the World Cup. It was a great collective effort – and that’s what seduces us as coaches."
Simeone is coming off a season in which his club toppled Barcelona and Real Madrid to claim the La Liga title, while also reaching the UEFA Champions League final. In the process of naming his World Cup XI and his top coaches on Wednesday. Klinsmann was named as one of his top two coaches at the World Cup.
He also goes on to mention Klinsmann's role in the development of the attractive style of football that Germany played at the World Cup.
