"Real Monday Night Football": Seattle Sounders jazzed for measuring-stick match vs. LA Galaxy

TUKWILA, Wash. — The Seattle Sounders kick off a marathon stretch of the season with Monday’s home matchup against the LA Galaxy at CenturyLink Field (10 pm ET, ESPN2, TSN2). The game is the first of eight for the Sounders over the next month.

“It’s been sort of a strange rhythm … it’s going to be a hectic August for us for sure,” Seattle head coach Sigi Schmid said. “Guys enjoy games more than they enjoy training with me, so I think they’re going to be happier to know that we have more games."

Seattle’s defenders will have their work cut out for them Monday night. The Galaxy boast the ever-dangerous offensive duo in Landon Donovan (3 goals, 4 assists) and Robbie Keane (10 goals, 6 assists). But the Sounders

"[Donovan and Keane] are tough to handle but I think our defense is really good this year,” Seattle defender DeAndre Yedlin said of the matchup. “I think we’re moving with good momentum, everybody’s connected, so I think it’ll be a good game.”

Schmid said the heavy workload for the team over the next month could be offset slightly as several players return from injury.

Defender Djimi Traore (torn adductor) made his return to the line-up in last weekend’s friendly against Tottenham and should be available against LA, while defender Dylan Remick (pulled adductor) and midfielder Andy Rose (meniscus) have each kicked up their training.

“It’s a good measuring stick for us and I’m sure a measuring stick for them as well,” Schmid said of the clash with LA. “You’ve got real ‘Monday Night Football.' It’s going to great.”
