Orlando City SC Designated Player Kaka to make loan debut with Sao Paulo FC this weekend

Kaká will take his first step this weekend toward what will ultimately end with his debut with MLS expansion club Orlando City SC.

The former Brazilian international will see his first action Sunday with São Paulo FC, according to the club website, where he will spend six months on loan before joining Orlando in the 2015 preseason. Kaká, who was revealed as Orlando’s first Designated Player signing on July 1 after previously playing with AC Milan and Real Madrid, spent the early part of his legendary career with São Paulo.

“We were very excited seeing Kaká play the end of the season with Milan, and we hope he can make a difference, as he his a player that can also guide [teammates],” São Paulo head coach Muricy Ramalho said. “We can see in training that he has a way of dealing with his colleagues, guiding them well, and this is critical because our great leader [goalkeeper Rogerio Ceni] is far away [on the field] in goal and we need to have someone on the field to guide, and in that sense he shows that quality.”

Kaká’s last game action came on May 18 in Milan’s 2-1 Serie A victory over Sassuolo, the last day of the Italian season. He mutually parted ways with Milan in June, leading to his Orlando signing. São Paulo are currently sixth in Brazil's league standings with 19 points from 11 matches.

“He is feeling well, so he will play,” Ramalho said.
