Transfer Watch: Reports from Spain claim that Xavi is back in the mix for New York City FC
Just when the rumor mill seemed to have Spanish maestro Xavi Hernandez heading to the Middle East, the pendulum looks like it's swinging back to MLS.
On Tuesday night a report by Radio Catalunya claims that the 34-year-old Xavi, as he is popularly known, has an offer from the table from New York City FC as well as from a club in Qatar. He is under contract with Barcelona through 2016.
According to the report, Xavi apparently met with Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano in May. Manchester City are part-owners in NYCFC and Soriano knows Xavi from his days as a top executive at Barcelona.
When contacted by MLSsoccer.com about the story, a NYCFC spokesman indicated that the club does not comment on player rumors.
Radio Catalunya says a final decision from Xavi could be coming in the coming days.
If Xavi were to sign with NYCFC, he would join fellow Spanish national team player David Villa, who became the 2015 expansion club's first signing in June.
