Mamadou 'Futty' Danso is on the move.

The Gambian defender had been with the Portland Timbers for more than five years, joining the team in the USL First Division in 2009 and transitioning to MLS in 2011, but was traded to the Montreal Impact on Monday in exchange for a second-round pick in the 2015 MLS SuperDraft. The 31-year-old center back had appeared in 10 of Portland's 14 games on the season, including nine starts and a 90-minute effort in a 2-0 win at Chivas USA on Wednesday night.

“On behalf of the entire Timbers organization, I would like to thank Futty for his immense contributions to this organization, both on and off the field,” said Timbers general manager Gavin Wilkinson in statement. “A move like this with such a well-liked and respected player is never easy, but as we look to strengthen the group in the summer, we needed to create roster and cap flexibility. We wish Futty all the best.”

Danso, who scored one goal this season, joins an Impact team in need of some defensive help. Montreal have conceded 22 goals this season and are currently tied with Chivas USA for last in the overall MLS standings.

“I would like to thank Futty for his contributions to the club,” said Portland head coach Caleb Porter in a statement. “He has been a class act and true professional. We wish him the best of luck in Montreal.”
