American Exports: Terrence Boyd continues his hot streak as Rapid Vienna clinch No. 2 spot in Austria

AMSTERDAM – Terrence Boyd continued his late goal surge on Sunday, striking the first half winner as Rapid Vienna clinched the runners up spot in the Austrian Bundesliga table with a 2-0 home win over FC Wacker Innsbruck.

It looked early in the evening as though the US forward was aiming for his third straight brace. Boyd went close to the target three time in the opening 20 minutes of play. The Rapid ace finally broke the ice with a well-placed header in the 33rd minute, setting new career highs with 14 league tallies and 19 across all competitions with one game left on the schedule.

Boyd would later shave the goal frame twice in the second half before being removed on 81 minutes. The win extended Rapid's league unbeaten run to 10 games and their home bulletproof streak across all competitions to 16.

Turning to France's Ligue 1, Alejandro Bedoya went the distance in attacking midfield as Nantes battled to a 1-1 draw at Toulouse.

A bit starved for touches on the day, the World Cup roster candidate struggled to have much impact on the game beyond a long range try pushed out of the low corner just after halftime and a yellow card. Already safe for the season, Nantes remained undefeated in four to hold firm in 11th place.

Next door in Belgium, Sacha Kljestan remained a spectator as 10-man Anderlecht pulled into second place with a late 1-0 winner away to derby foe Club Brugge. Knocking their rivals off the top, the holders moved to within one point of the summit with three championship hexagonal playoff rounds to go.

Over in Norway's Tippeligaen, Mikkel Diskerud and Rosenborg suffered a 2-0 home loss to table toppers Molde FK. With Ethan Horvath serving as back-up netminder for the victors, RBK tentatively held onto fourth place despite being dealt their first defeat of the young season.
