Buy, Sell, Hold: Which Philadelphia Union players must be in your XI this week? | MLS Fantasy Advice

TRANSFER DEADLINE: Wednesday, 7:15 pm ET

The Philadelphia Union have arrived in New Jersey for their Wednesday night fixture at Red Bull Arena, kicking off the first double-game week of the 2014 season (7:30 pm ET, MLS Free Stream of the Week). For MLS Fantasy owners, it's a chance to make a big jump in the overall standings.

In preparation for the big week, we brought back buy, sell, hold with the sole focus on the Philadelphia Union in order to help you out with any last-minute transfers.

But here's the thing: You want to have any and every Union player you can in your lineup this week (for many, that will be the max of four). So keep that in mind when perusing the advice below. Sell – for this round and this team, at least – postpone the decision to part way until Round 7. It's now or never to keep a place on your roster.

  • BUY = Pick him up and play him this week.
  • HOLD = If you have him, play him. But don't use a transfer on him.
  • SELL = If he doesn't produce in Round 7, it's time to move on.

Jason Saghini

Andrew Wiebe

Ben Jata

SELL - His stats are misleading and offensive numbers (all set-piece related) won’t hold up throughout the season.

HOLD - Recent goals a bonus for owners, but you can't count on those week to week. At $9.2m, it's a stretch.

BUY - In form at the moment and he'll likely be on the field for all 180 minutes. But do you have the cash?

BUY - Solid start this week, but could be next starter to lose spot if he doesn’t produce soon.

BUY - He has potential to hit double digits or hover around the two-point mark. Worth the gamble in a DGW.

HOLD - Hasn't been great as of late, but Le Toux's definitely capable of producing some magic.

BUY - Even without a shutout this week, he could be the top scoring goalkeeper.

BUY - PK saves are nice, and shutout points should arrive soon as well (if the Union can eliminate mental mistakes).

BUY - Clean sheets have been nearly impossible to predict this season, but two chances is better than one.

SELL - Would rather have cheaper Berry for CBIs and set-piece prowess once you know Wheeler won’t steal time.

SELL - At $9.1m, you could use those funds to improve elsewhere. Not enough bang for the buck right now.

HOLD - Price is high and he's not producing. Needs to have a great week or he's gone. Austin Berry is a cheaper bet.

BUY - If that was the real Andrew Wenger that stood up Saturday, you want him in fantasy.

BUY - At that price, and the Union on the cusp of something big, there's no player with more fantasy upside.

BUY - Getting into dangerous areas, and at $6.2m, he's a steal. Conor Casey could eat in to his minutes.

* Players not mentioned who you should also consider: Austin Berry, Vincent Nogueira, Sheanon Williams, Leo Fernandes

Transfers lock at 7:15 pm ET on Wednesday night, so be sure to have your captain selected before then. If you're not giving someone on either Philadelphia or New York the armband, don't sweat it! Sit back, relax and enjoy the game.
