Sporting KC could welcome Chance Myers, Soony Saad back for Real Salt Lake clash
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Sporting Kansas City could have right back Chance Myers and winger Soony Saad available this coming weekend, after groin strains sidelined them for the club's first six matches across all competitions.
Both returned to full training on Tuesday, with an eye toward Saturday's home game against Real Salt Lake in a rematch of the 2013 MLS Cup (8:30 pm ET, MLS LIVE).
“They're both on the same schedule at the moment,” manager Peter Vermes told reporters after Tuesday's training session, but that will depend on how training goes over the rest of this week.
Saad has played this year for Lebanon, in Asian Cup qualifying in February and March, but aggravated an existing strain during that two-match stint. Myers, who was called into his first January camp with the US national team earlier this year, was hurt during Sporting's preseason training in Florida.
“We're just making sure we don't have any lingering effects,” Myers said. “Our training staff's really good, in the fact that they'll make sure you're 110 percent, not just 95 percent. In that term, we're just making sure we're really cautious about it.”
“It's a contusion, and you have to deal with the pain,” Vermes said. “But he should be fine.”

Forward C.J. Sapong is still listed as questionable with a neck and back strain, which Vermes said is likely a carryover from Sporting's long 2013 season.
“We're going to shut him down just a little bit for the next couple of days, let them work on him and see where his progress is,” Vermes said. “I'm not going to push him to get back until that's all sorted out.”
