GUADALAJARA, Mexico – DaMarcus Beasley may not be in Jurgen Klinsmann’s squad to face Ukraine this week, but he made sure he wouldn’t be far out of the US national team coach’s mind after scoring the winner for Puebla on Sunday.

Beasley came off the bench in the 38th minute and scored in the 53rd to hand La Franja a 1-0 home victory over crisis-ridden Querétaro.

The former Chicago Fire star – who played as a left wing back – headed in from the left hand side of the penalty area after a cross from the right wing found the American unmarked.

Michael Orozco Fiscal went the full 90 minutes for Puebla at center back, creating a chance for longtime MLSer Maicon Santos when he burst down the right flank and crossed in the 30th. The victory moves Puebla to 12th position and came off the back of an 8-0 defeat to Tigres UANL midweek in the Copa MX.

On Saturday, Gabriel Farfan fulfilled a long-held ambition of featuring in Mexico’s first division when he came on at halftime for Chiapas in their 3-0 home defeat to reigning Liga MX champions León. Farfan played at right back in the second half, with his team already 3-0 down when the Chivas USA player came on.
