American Exports: Jose Torres hopes for first Tigres UANL start of season in Monterrey clasico
GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Jose Torres’ Tigres UANL are propping up the Liga MX table at present and are desperate for points against archrivals Los Rayados in Monterrey’s clásico on Saturday (8 p.m ET, Univision Deportes).
The American midfielder has not started any of the first four league games for his side in 2014, but coach Ricardo “Tuca” Ferretti is under pressure and may switch things up in midfield for a team that has scored just one Liga MX goal this season.
Club Tijuana and their American contingent have gone more than a year without a road Liga MX victory – with only three ties in those 16 matches – and return to the last place they did take three points on the road: Pumas UNAM’s Estadio Olímpico (Sunday, 1 pm ET, Univision).
Joe Corona is back from injury and fit to take part, with Herculez Gomez, Edgar Castillo, Greg Garza and Paul Arriola all in the frame for minutes.
Puebla’s DaMarcus Beasley and Michael Orozco are both likely to start at Veracruz, looking for La Franja’s first win of the Clausura 2014 (Saturday, 6 pm ET, Univision Deportes).
Jose Villarreal and Michael Farfan have reportedly had problems in processing their moves from MLS, according to one report, but both are training with Cruz Azul’s first team and could play away at Chivas on Saturday if the deals are finalized by the end of the transfer window (8 pm ET, UniMas).
In Estadio Azteca, Jonathan Bornstein’s Atlante face a difficult task against Club América (Saturday, 6 pm ET, Univision).
In the Ascenso MX, Sonny Guadarrama, Ventura Alvarado and Necaxa are in action on Friday against San Luis (9 pm ET), while Marco Vidal's and Daniel Cuevas’ Lobos BUAP play Saturday at Mérida (7 pm ET).
For Altamira, Austin Guerrero will be hoping to start for Altamira in their game vs. Celaya (Saturday, 9 pm ET).
