Report: Former Seattle Sounders midfielder Erik Friberg considering MLS return
The Seattle Sounders could plug a hole in their roster by turning to a familiar face: midfielder Erik Friberg.
A report from Swedish publication skanskan.se, initially picked up by SB Nation's Sounder at Heart blog, indicates that Friberg (pictured), who made 26 appearances for the Sounders during a one-year stint in the Pacific Northwest in 2011, has been given permission by his current club, Malmö FF, to speak with Seattle about a return move to MLS.
The report says that Malmö gave Friberg permission to remain in Sweden to consider an offer from the Sounders while the rest of the squad traveled to Florida for their preseason preparations.
Friberg, 27, started 23 of the 26 games he appeared in during the 2011 season and registered a goal and two assists during his time with the team.
The Seattle Sounders did not immediately reply when reached for comment on the report by MLSsoccer.com.
