American Exports: Brek Shea extends loan deal with Barnsley until April

An initial 28-day loan has transformed into something much longer for Brek Shea.

Barnsley announced on Tuesday that Shea's stay with the club has been extended until April 3, a move that should give the 23-year-old winger more playing time as he attempts to make a late push onto the US national team's World Cup roster this summer.

Shea has started twice for the Tykes since joining them earlier this month, playing a combined 152 minutes, and reportedly fared well in both outings. He also scored in a friendly this past weekend (see video above).

The extension of the loan means Shea could play in as many as 14 games before returning to Stoke City, something he is surely hoping for after a spell of inactivity with the Potters this past fall.

Shea will also attempt to help Barnsley avoid relegation, but they have an uphill battle to climb during the remainder of the campaign. The club is currently in last place in the Championship, five points shy of safety and with just one win in the past seven league matches.
