American Exports: Jonathan Bornstein goes 90 for Atlante in Copa MX loss

GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Three-time MLS All-Star Jonathan Bornstein has returned to first-team action, making his debut for Atlante on Wednesday in the Copa MX.

Los Potros fell 1-0 on the road to Mérida in their first Group 6 match, giving up a late goal following a defensive mix-up, but Tigres loanee Bornstein – who hadn’t played an official first-team game since September – got 90 minutes under his belt on the left side of central midfield.

Bornstein’s brightest moment came in the 83rd minute, when he burst forward and was played in down the left channel and crossed, but it bounced out of play for a corner.

The former Chivas USA left back didn’t feature in Atlante’s first two games of the Liga MX Clausura season.

Following last Saturday’s 2-1 loss to Veracruz, Atlante’s Uruguayan coach Rubén Israel was fired and replaced by Argentine Pablo Marini.
