Clint Dempsey's last three months may not be what he expected when he transferred to MLS, but that is not preventing the suitors from lining up in England for an offseason loan deal.

If England's Mirror is to be believed, there are three teams chasing after the 30-year-old, in addition to his most recent EPL club Tottenham Hotspur, which the paper claims "have first option on bringing him back to the Premier League."

The other teams in the running? According to the paper, it's the popular American hotspots Fulham (Dempsey played there), Aston Villa (owned by an American and featuring US 'keeper Brad Guzan) and Everton (American Tim Howard starts in goal and Landon Donovan played there).

The Seattle Sounders acquired Dempsey on a transfer from Tottenham on August 3, but injuries limited him to only 12 appearances, including nine starts, one assist and one goal. The latest setback came on Wednesday when he was forced to withdraw from US national team camp in Scotland after picking up a right calf strain.

That shouldn't be enough to squash a potential loan move, however. According to Sounders GM Adrian Hanauer, he "won't be surprised if that happens."

“Clint has something in his contract that allows him to go once during his contract, which obviously was intended for this offseason prior to the World Cup," Hanauer told The Seattle Times on Monday. "So his agent and he are kind of keeping me in the loop, and we’re sort of working on that."
