American Exports: Jozy Altidore watch continues as US striker visits old home Hull City
AMSTERDAM – Another busy weekend of action for Americans playing in Europe has arrived, with AZ Alkmaar hitman Aron Jóhannsson looking to continue his brand of home cooking against western rivals ADO Den Haag. All times in ET.
ENGLISH PREMIER LEAGUE
Jozy Altidore – Sunderland at Hull City (Saturday, 11 am on Premier League Extra Time)
The Jozy goal watch continues as Altidore visits his old stomping grounds still looking for his first of the EPL season. Coming off a Man of the Match show in a big derby triumph, the US striker has publicly called for another winning effort. Sunderland have won six straight against the Tigers and all four of their top-flight clashes.
Tim Howard – Everton vs. Tottenham Hotspur (Sunday, 8:30 am on CNBC)
With Brad Friedel reverting to his backup role after a midweek cup win, there will be no showdown with the in-form Howard. The Everton netminder has won five of six to position his side a point behind Spurs in sixth place. Howard has also won three straight at home to Tottenham, who have not beaten him at Goodison since 2007.
John Anthony Brooks – Hertha Berlin vs. Jermaine Jones – Schalke (Saturday, 10:30 am)
It remains to be seen if Brooks will return to the Hertha lineup, but Jones will probably keep his midfield place for Schalke. Both clubs are coming off losses and both are in the middle of a large pack currently fighting for fourth place. Schalke have traditionally not fared well in Berlin, but they have managed three wins and a draw form the last four visits.
Aron Jóhannsson – AZ Alkmaar vs. ADO Den Haag (Saturday, 2:45 pm)
With the Cheese Farmers level on points with two foes at the top, Jóhannsson will aim to perform his usual AFAS-Stadion antics. The US forward has scored in three straight home Eredivisie games and four of the five this season. He has never faced Den Haag, who will arrive on a three-game road losing slide. The Kaasboeren have not lost at home to ADO since 2004, winning six in nine tries since.
Mikkel Diskerud – Rosenborg vs. Viking (Sun. noon)
It's very simple: If Mix and the rest of the Troll Kids cannot gain at least a point on league leaders Strømsgodset this weekend, they will have no chance to snatch the crown on the closing day that follows. While the leaders travel to relegation-fighters Tromsø, hunters Rosenborg must handle their own business at home, where they're unbeaten in 11 league tilts. Viking have managed two draws in their last three at Lerkendal Stadion.
