Report: Toronto FC interested in Tottenham Hotspur & England striker Jermain Defoe
Last month, Toronto FC President and CEO Tim Leiweke admitted the club is prepared to splash a lot of cash -- upwards of $26 million -- to bring in a few world-class players.
TFC's recently hired general manager, Tim Bezbatchenko, did not confirm the report but did admit that the club is looking for players in the big European leagues.
“I think once you say Serie A and England and you look at the rosters of the teams, who’s doing well and who might have an interest looking at the age, I think people can surmise a certain list of players,” Bezbatchenko told the Sun. “It is what it is. I’m not going to say whether it’s true or not."
More specifically, Bezbatchenko discussed the type of player the Reds are looking for: goal scorers.
“We need to score goals," he said. "If we can get a No. 9 and a No. 10, that would be great ... It’s up to the players to decide if they want to come to MLS.
“You need around 46 or 47 (goals in a season) to be playoff-eligible. We need to be looking for that."
