Report: Sacha Kljestan slated for USMNT call-up for final World Cup qualifiers
The club website for Belgian club Anderlecht reported on Friday that midfielder Sacha Kljestan has been called up by the US national team for the final two World Cup qualifiers later this month.
Kljestan, 28, has 41 caps in his international career and has appeared in three matches this year for the Americans, who host Jamaica on Oct. 11 in Kansas City before finishing the Hexagonal against Panama in Panama City on Oct. 15.
The US team clinched one of CONCACAF’s three automatic berths in the World Cup next summer with a 2-0 win over Mexico on Sept. 10.
U.S. Soccer is expected to announce the complete roster on Sunday. A spokesman declined comment to MLSsoccer.com about the Kljestan report on Friday morning.
Kljestan last featured for the US in their 4-3 win over Bosnia-Herzegovina on August 14, coming off the bench for starter Jermaine Jones in the 69th minute.
The former Chivas USA captain also started and logged 81 minutes in the team’s 4-2 loss to Belgium in May and came off the bench for midfielder Eddie Johnson during the team’s 2-1 loss to Honduras in February, Kljestan’s only appearance in a qualifier this year.
