How the USMNT can clinch a berth in the World Cup on Tuesday vs. Mexico
There will be no World Cup clinching celebration in Columbus on Tuesday night. Not immediately, anyway.
While a win by the US men's national team over Mexico at Columbus Crew Stadium (8 pm ET, ESPN and UniMas) would put Jurgen Klinsmann's side on the cusp of the 2014 World Cup in Brazil next summer, they still need the right result from Tegucigalpa in a match that kicks off one hour after USA-Mexico.
A Honduras win or tie against Panama (9 pm ET, beIN Sport), coupled with a US win, would officially clinch a ticket to the big dance. Except the US will only find out an hour after the conclusion of the match at Crew Stadium.
On the other hand, a loss at the hands of Mexico could lead to a scenario where the USMNT would need a result in their last match in Panama to seal the deal.
