VIDEO: Clint Dempsey talks about USMNT caps No. 1 and 100 ahead of Costa Rica tilt | SIDELINE

Clint Dempsey is set to make his 100th appearance for the US national team against Costa Rica on Friday night (10 pm ET, beIN Sport), an achievement that very few international players are lucky enough to realize.

The US captain recently spoke with U.S. Soccer for a pair of video interviews (above and below) that cover his first and 100th caps for the USMNT, and everything in between.

Dempsey will become the 14th American all-time to reach the century mark and the second to surpass the milestone number this year, joining long-time teammate DaMarcus Beasley, who received the honor during a friendly against Belgium in May.

The Seattle Sounders' newest DP made his senior team debut in Columbus, Ohio, on November 17, 2004, in a World Cup qualifying match against Jamaica, meaning Dempsey saw his international career go from cap number one to 100 in less than 10 full years.

Expect Dempsey to be officially honored by U.S. Soccer on home soil prior to kickoff of the USMNT's rivalry matchup against Mexico next Tuesday night (8 pm ET, ESPN/UniMas) at Columbus Crew Stadium, right back where it all started for the long-haired rookie from Nacogdoches, Texas.
