American Exports; Michael Orozco Fiscal scores, but Puebla undone by Cruz Azul
GUADALAJARA, Mexico – Michael Orozco Fiscal netted his first goal for Puebla on Sunday, but it was done in vain as Cruz Azul scored late to win 2-1 inside the Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
Orozco Fisca (above)l scored with a glancing header off a free kick to give La Franja the lead in the 27th minute, and he went the full 90 minutes at right back.
DaMarcus Beasley also completed the game for Puebla on the left flank, playing more defensively under new coach Rubén Omar Romano than he did under Manuel Lapuente.
The result leaves Puebla in 12th position in the Liga MX after seven rounds of games.
A late goal also made Jose Torres and his Tigres side suffer, as Chiapas came from two goals down to tie 2-2 on Saturday in the Estadio Universitario.
Torres played the full 90 in central midfield and produced a positive first half display as Tigres went into a comfortable 2-0 lead.
But when Tigres sat back and invited Chiapas onto them, Torres was slightly overwhelmed in the center of the field.
In Mexico’s second division, Sonny Guadarrama went 76 minutes for Necaxa in their 1-1 draw away at Estudiantes Tecos on Friday, while Marco Vidal played the full game for Lobos BUAP in its 1-0 loss Saturday against Celaya.
For Dorados, former Chivas USA forward Jesus Padilla came off the bench in the 57th in their 1-1 draw Saturday against Alebrijes de Oaxaca.
In Brazil, Freddy Adu wasn’t called into the Bahia squad for their Sunday game against Náutico.
