MLS Fantasy: Last-minute injury news leaves fantasy owners scrambling to find replacements
Change. It's one of the hardest things to do in MLS Fantasy Soccer: Manager.
During the season, you can become so obsessed with owning the big-name players that you forget about all the other guys. Even when a player is doing well, it's hard to differ from the norm, especially when there's a risk of dropping in the overall rankings.
There are still two games to go in Round 25, but let's take a look at how the Top 20 most-owned performed on Saturday.
Top 20 Most-owned players
* Play on Sunday night ** Did not play due to injury
The top two most-owned players did not play in Round 25 due to injury, but this is something that happens from time to time, especially when teams don't reveal such info until game day.
This makes it even more important to keep active players on your bench. If you had Graham Zusi, Mike Magee and Thierry Henry on your team this week, you'll likely be losing out on several points. But, if you have a bench full of players who see 90 minutes on a regular basis, the risk of missing out on last-minute injury news will not hurt you as much.
Regardless of injuries, people are still investing in the wrong players. Each round, you are given at least two free transfers to do with as you please. Some take the risk and pick up players who are more off-the-radar than others and this is where they make up ground.
Top 20 Players - Round 25
You could say that this was a down week for the "popular" players, but still, only two (Federico Higuain and Sebastien Le Toux) of the Top 20 most-owned scored seven points or more in Round 25. Fabio Alves Macedo on the other hand, also known as "Fabinho," scored 13 points this round.
Philadelphia's starting left fullback, Raymon Gaddis, was listed as questionable earlier in the week with an ankle sprain. Fabinho, who had been used as a substitute last few weeks, would finally get his chance, helping the Union record a clean sheet in a superb 90-minute performance against D.C. United. He recorded his second assist of the season as well.
This is why it's good to know as many players as possible. You can do fine by picking the "popular" players from week to week, but it's not going to take you to the next level.
