American Exports: Saturday rundown of Yanks in Europe

AMSTERDAM – Hertha Berlin defender John Anthony Brooks, who is expected to be called up for next week's US national team friendly against Bosnia & Herzogovina, made an auspicious Bundeliga debut on Saturday, firing the winner in a 6-1 opening day rout of visiting Eintracht Frankfurt.

Just past the half hour, Brooks gathered a corner kick pinball to rifle the home side's second through a crowd from 15 yards. After striking his first pro goal on closing day last season, Brooks has now scored in two straight Hertha games.

The youngster would also eventually save a goal with a daring line clearance eight minutes from time. Thanks to the resounding victory, Brooks & Co. sprinted directly to the top of the table.

It seems USMNT forward Terrence Boyd -- whose Rapid Vienna side doesn't play until Sunday -- was impressed.

Elsewhere, both Hoffenheim's Fabian Johnson and Timothy Chandler of guests FC Nürnberg remained spectators for a 2-2 draw at Rhein-Neckar-Arena.

Over in England's Championship, Eric Lichaj went the full 90 at right back in Nottingham Forest's 1-0 win at Blackburn. The US international could have had a late assist had Darius Henderson not nodded his late cross wide from a good position. The result kept third-place Forest perfect through two games.

Meanwhile, Daniel Williams made his Reading debut with a five-minute cameo in their 1-1 away share with Bolton. Tim Ream went unused for Wanderers.
