The New England Revolution might be about to lose one promising US national team prospect in Juan Agudelo, but they could be set to add another American forward with significantly more career experience for a late season playoff push in Charlie Davies.

The Revolution have reportedly already signed Davies on a loan agreement through the end of the season with an option to buy permanently and could announce the deal on Friday. Davies to New England was first reported by SoccerByIves.net.

Davies' only other prior stint in Major League Soccer came during a season-long loan deal with D.C. United in 2011 which saw the now-27-year-old score 11 goals in 26 appearances for the Black-and-Red. Since that time, Davies was released by French club Sochaux and signed for Randers in Denmark, where he has hasn't scored in 23 appearances.

A second move to MLS could be Davies' last true hope at getting back on track a career that was once so promising before being derailed by a brutal automobile accident in 2009 that nearly claimed his life. The 11 goals with United in 2011 are the only first-team goals Davies has scored since the accident, now almost four years ago.

The Revolution declined to comment when contacted by MLSsoccer.com. D.C. United currently have right of first refusal for Davies because they made him an offer at the end of the loan deal in 2011, which he declined. New England will have to make a trade with D.C. United in order to complete the deal.
