Former US international Charlie Davies could be returning to MLS, and it could be very close to home.

A report from The Washington Post's Steven Goff claims Davies' MLS rights will be traded by D.C. United, his previous MLS club, to the New England Revolution. Goff further explains that Davies would then be loaned to New England by his current team, Danish side Randers. Details of what D.C. would get from the trade are currently unclear, although it appears possible the moves could be completed by Friday.

The Washington Post report comes on the heels of an earlier report that Davies was alredy set to join the Revolution on loan.

Davies, 27, has struggled to find a stable professional situation ever since he suffered massive injuries in a car accident in 2009. After returning to the field in 2011 with D.C. United, on loan from French club Sochaux, Davies scored 11 goals in 26 appearances. United declined to pick up his contract option after the season, however, and Davies signed with Randers. Last season, he failed to score in 23 appearances for the club.

If Davies did return to MLS and New England, it would represent a true homecoming, as Davies grew up in the area and played for Boston College.

Team officials from both sides did not immediately respond to a request for comment from MLSsoccer.com.
