DISCUSS: Rodolfo Zelaya has MLS interest, but for what team is he best suited? | THE SIDELINE
Rodolfo Zelaya's time at the 2013 CONCACAF Gold Cup may be over, but that doesn't mean he should disappear from the radar of Major League Soccer and US national team fans following El Salvador's 5-1 quarterfinal loss to the Americans on Sunday.
The 25-year-old was one of the tournament's standout performers by scoring four goals in as many games — including a penalty he earned against the US, and every other goal scored by El Salvador in the tournament as well — and undoubtedly caught the attention of any potential suitors in MLS that weren't already aware of his ability.
The American soccer media served notice, too. FOX broadcaster Eric Wynalda, serving as color commentator for Sunday's clash, stated at one point during the broadcast that "there are seven MLS teams looking at Zelaya."
MLS teams are interested, and Zelaya is interested in MLS.
“I’m happy with the tournament I’m playing personally, and I still have six months left in my contract,” Zelaya told reporters a day before the US matchup. “We will see what happens after the Gold Cup, the goal of every Salvadoran player is to play abroad and I hope there is a chance.”
Which begs the question: Which MLS teams should and would look to bring in Zelaya either this summer or in the offseason?
